In this project each student had to create a science fiction story of their own. Before we actually started writing our stories we read many science fiction stories to give an idea of how to incorporate science into a fiction story. Also to give us an idea of what we could write about. Another thing that our teachers prepared for us to get us ready to write our own stories was they had a science fiction writer come in and read us one of her stories. She explained the process of writing a story, and then as a class we came up with an outline with her of a story.

Big Idea Graphic Organizer- This was our first outline that helped us get our ideas out and have our main ideas so that later we would just have to worry about putting in the details.
World Building Graphic Organizer- This organizer was to make sure that our story was consistent and had main theme. We answered questions about what our story would include in it .

Research Document- In this document we did all the research for the science that would be going into our story.
Logical Leaps- In this document we had to fill out the science part of our stories and then write how out science would "take a leap" into something bigger. That would be the fiction part.
Down Draft- This was our first draft, we had done activities and learned about sci-fi stories before this but now we were putting all of these ideas onto paper in story format for the first time.
Final Draft- Before our writing could on its final draft, it had to be put into correct format. Each humanities honors student also read 2-3 of our peers stories and peer-critiqued them.
We learned a lot about how to include science into fiction stories, and still have the story be very interesting by weaving the science into our stories. In the end it was a process and we took many steps before writing our stories, but we all had unique and individual stories about topics that we were each interested in.
What do you wish you had done differently?
I wish that I would have planned it out more and just stuck to one idea instead of doubting it and debating changing the topic. If I would have just been more confident in the idea then I think that it would have been a stronger piece.
What did you do that you want to remember to do next time you write?
I want to pick an interesting topic, something outside of my comfort zone. This whole writing piece was outside of my writing comfort zone and that is something I actually enjoyed in the end. I think that this pushes you and that this is how you grow and spread your horizons.
